Garden Update
Summer Weeding
Thanks to a group of future 4th graders, there is less bind weed snaking around the plants in the butterfly garden. They have come out twice so far and are looking forward to their next opportunity to dig in the dirt and destroy the weeds.

Shoesmith Choir

Over 1,000 people heard the Shoesmith choir sing along with the Chicago Children's Choir at Navy Pier February 10th in honor of Black History Month. The students were proud of what they had done and felt that their singing had given the audience a sense of joy and pride as well.

The Garden
The Friends of Shoesmith have been busy this fall working hard cleaning up the gardens and getting ready for winter. We've cleared the paths in the Butterfly Garden, cleaned up the Kindergarten garden and spruced up the area around the greenhouse. This past Saturday, we planted 250 tulip bulbs both in front of the school and in the Sims Memorial Garden by the cafeteria. Look for them in the spring. And stay posted for dates to garden when it gets warm again.
