Ms. Lane's 4th Grade

Dear Scholars and Families,
Welcome to an exciting year in fourth grade! My name is Ms. Lane, and I will be teaching math to our fourth grade scholars. It is my privilege to begin my thirteenth year of teaching in CPS, and sixth year at Shoesmith School. I began my career student-teaching at Shoesmith, and found my way back to The Hive after working at Pershing Magnet School in Bronzeville. I enjoy teaching intermediate grades because it is the time when children begin to establish their own identity, foster independence, and grow into young adults. Being a part of their lives at such a crucial time is a privilege, and a responsibility I do not take lightly.
Outside of school I’m mostly chasing around my two toddler-age sons; This also means I drink a lot of coffee. I love to travel, and am looking forward to getting back to it after staying local for so long due to Covid. If nothing else, these past couple of years have taught me I’m much more flexible and creative than I ever thought possible. We all had our limits tested in different ways, and I’m truly hoping to make this the best year yet for our scholars. They deserve it after the challenges they’ve overcome!
I am excited to meet and get to know each family, so please stop by and introduce yourself if we have not already met. Communication is key to any strong relationship; therefore, you will receive many updates from me throughout the year, and I encourage you to reach out for any reason! If you have any questions or concerns throughout the year, I urge you to send a message or email. I look forward to working together to enable our scholars to achieve nothing less than greatness.
I can’t wait to start the 2022-2023 school year, and work alongside you to foster critical thinkers, creative problem-solvers, and future leaders.
Yours in education,
Ms. Kelly Lane
