Welcome to Room 105
Welcome Honeybees! My name is Ms. Sanipass. I am a graduate from Michigan State University. This will be my seventh year teaching first grade at Shoesmith Elementary School. My goal is to create a positive learning experience for you. I am excited to get to know you and create a learning path special for you. I want to congratulate you on finishing your kindergarten year! I am so proud of all your hard work! I look forward to working with you this year!
I know we are going to have a fun and exciting year together. Here are some of the things you have to look forward to in 1st grade…
1. Complete the Literacy and Math Summer Assignments
2. Read for 30 minutes EVERY day
3. Practice sight words
-Students should come to first grade knowing the first 100 of Fry’s sight words.
4. Practice your addition and subtraction facts 3 times a week
I hope everyone has a safe and fun summer. I can’t wait for us to start our wonderful year together!

- Learning how to add and subtract single digit numbers and two-digit numbers
- Being able to read chapter books
- Learning about each other and our community

- Learning how to measure objects and tell time
- Writing friendly letters
- Buddy reading
- And so much more!!!

Sight Words Resources
The sight word list has flashcards to cut out.
I provided Fry's First 100 Sight Words list below. Students should know the first hundred sight words coming into first grade. These are words that students know by sight. They DO NOT need to know how to spell them. Sight words account for up to 75% of the words used in the books we read. They are very important and help students become fluent readers. I attached multiple resources for you to use.
