Welcome to Room 105

Welcome Honeybees! My name is Ms. Sanipass. I am a graduate from Michigan State University. This will be my fifth year teaching at Shoesmith Elementary. I am happy to announce that I will be your teacher this year. Congratulations on finishing your kindergarten year! I am so proud of all your hard work! I look forward to working with you this year!

I know we are going to have a fun and exciting year together. Here are some of the things you have to look forward to in 1st grade…
  • Field trips to museums, plays and the zoo
  • Being an author and illustrator for your own stories
  • Learning how to add and subtract single digit numbers and two-digit numbers
  • Being able to read chapter books
  • Learning about each other and our community
  • Creating beautiful art projects
  • Learning how to measure objects and tell time
  • Writing letters to a pen pal
  • Buddy reading
  • And so much more!!!
For us to start the year as strong as we can, I need everyone to do three simple things for me over the summer:
1. Read for 30 minutes EVERY day
2. Practice sight words
3. Practice your addition and subtraction facts 3 times a week
4. Write a letter telling me interesting facts about yourself

I hope everyone has a safe and fun summer. I can’t wait for us to start our wonderful year together!

Sincerely,
Ms. Sanipass

Sight Words Resources
Each document has flashcards to cut out.

I provided the first and second 100 sight words list below. Students should know the first two hundred sight words coming into first grade. These are words that students know by sight. Sight words account for up to 75% of the words used in the books we read. They are very important and help students become fluent readers. I attached multiple resources for you to use.

Thank you so much for your support!
