Ms. Stamm's 1st Grade Class

Hello First Graders!

I am Ms. Stamm and I will be your first grade teacher this year! This will be my second year teaching at Shoesmith Elementary School. I can't wait to meet you all and see how much you all learned in Kindergarten.

I know we are going to have a fun and exciting year together. Here are some things to look forward to in 1st grade…
  • Virtual field trips and we are hoping to plan in-person field trips, too
  • Being an author and illustrator for your own stories
  • Learning how to add and subtract single digit numbers and two-digit numbers
  • Being able to read chapter books
  • Learning about each other and our community
  • Creating beautiful projects
  • Learning how to measure objects and tell time
  • Writing letters to a pen pal
  • Buddy reading
  • And so much more!!!
For us to start the year as strong as we can, I need everyone to do four simple things for me over the summer:
1. Read for 30 minutes EVERY day.
2. Practice sight words - Students should come to first grade knowing the first 100 sight words.
3. Practice your addition and subtraction facts 3 times a week.
4. Write a letter telling me interesting facts about yourself.

Have a safe and fun summer break!

Best,
Ms. Stamm

Sight Words Resources

I provided Fry's First 100 Sight Words list below. Students should know the first hundred sight words coming into first grade. I added the Fry's Second Sight Words list to practice, as well. These are words that students know by sight. They DO NOT need to know how to spell them. Sight words account for up to 75% of the words used in the books we read. They are very important and help students become fluent readers. I attached multiple resources for you to use.

Thank you so much for your support!
