Mrs. Hobson's Kindergarten Class

Picture
I am looking forward to an amazing year full of fun, learning, and new experiences. I wanted to start off by letting you know a little about myself.
This will be my eleventh year of teaching, ten of which has been right here at Shoesmith. I am really enjoying every minute of educating our youth and am always delighted to see how much they progress and grow from year to year.
I am a graduate of Howard University where I received a bachelor’s degree in finance. I made a career change early on and obtained a master’s degree in elementary education from Quincy University and a master’s in school leadership from Concordia University.
When I am not grading papers or planning lessons, I am home spending time with my husband and our three children, Christopher, Cameron, and Chloe.
Kindergarten is such a special year for you and your child and I feel fortunate to be a part of it. I believe that education is a very critical part of success. Along with that, I believe that all children can learn and will succeed. With the right support and tools, I plan to help our students not only master this year’s content, but be prepared for next year as well. In order for this to happen, I encourage you to partner with me and to be involved in your child’s educational journey. Parents are a child’s first teacher and if we work together, it will help your child succeed in school and in life.
During the first week of school, I will hand out lots of information to prepare for the year ahead and a warm welcome to an exciting year. I am looking forward to an enjoyable learning experience and I hope that you and your child are as well.
If you would like to contact me for any reason, please email me at alhobson@cps.edu. I will be sure to get back to you as soon as possible, usually within 24 hours. During the school year, I can be reached at (773) 535-1764 or you may leave a note for me of the left side of your child’s yellow communication folder that will travel to and from school every day.
There will be a summer learning menu for your child to follow along and practice skills to help prepare for kindergarten. You may find this and other posted materials on our school website at http://shoesmith.cps.edu/.
Again, I am excited and looking forward to a great school year. Have a happy and safe summer!
Best Wishes,
Mrs. Hobson

Read Every Day
Students should read a book for 15 minutes every day. Have your child interact with a book everyday.  Students first learn to read by looking at the pictures and telling a story about what they see happening on each page.
